Yet again Raymond Loewy designed a completely new body style, which Rootes dubbed the "Audax body."  This style was to remain in production until the Minx Series VI was superseded by the "Arrow" range in 1967.
At the time of its introduction, all Rootes publications referred to this model simply as "The New Hillman Minx."  One imagines that the publicity gurus at Rootes would have suppressed any thoughts of it being merely the first in a new line of models.  Only when the Series II model range was introduced in the following year, was there a need to retrospectively dub this one "Series I."
