HILLMAN CAR CLUB
OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA INC

Although produced from 1945 to 1947, this model range is consistently referred to in Rootes publications as "1946 Model."  With the introduction of the Mark III in 1949, Rootes retrospectively designated the 1946 model as "Mark I."  Various well-respected authors have used the word "Phase" instead of "Mark" – although we have been unable to find that term in any Rootes literature.  The final word on the subject is found in the Vehicle Identification Schedule, published by Rootes Motors (Parts) Limited in November 1966, where the model is described as "Mark I."

While the Mark I looks externally similar to the previous model, its "unit body" construction is very different.  For further information about body types, refer to the last item in "Melodies" vol. 9, no. 4.
